I want so many things in life.

You want so many things in life.

She wants so many things in life.

He wants so many things in life.

What are these ‘so many things’ that all of us want in life?

The amazing thing is so many of us cannot define what we actually want out of life. Most people have a general knowledge or the similitude of their goals but not the exact picture.

The import of this came to me amidst the rampaging turmoil of life, a situation that shook me to my core, when a friend asked me “What do you want”?

There and then I knew I have been so generalistic about things in my life to my own detriment. I knew I had to be more intentional.

I picked back my reading habit, started reading books about Goal- setting, Purposeful Living, Leadership, Unlimited Success, Personality Development, etc.

Then I set a new set of clear goals for myself.

According to Zig Ziglar, the majority are “wandering generalities” rather than being “meaningful specifics”.

There is no way you can be successful without being specific.

Think about it.

What do you even want to be successful about when there is no clear goal to achieve?

What is going to be the gauge of your achievement when nothing is specific?

The probabilities of success are enhanced when you know exactly what you are aiming at.

You can’t hit a goal you are not clear about.

You must be clear about where you are heading, and the reality you want. You can only be accountable when the goal is specific.

To achieve this feat, it might take you to pause where you are now, and do a kind of self-appraisal.

Run a self-audit of your entire life so far, and be sincere with yourself.

Your present situation is actually what you need to move you to your destination, but you must own it.

It doesn’t matter where you are coming from or what you have been through; what matters is where you are going, and the steps you are ready to take to get you there.

Let your past stays in the past. It’s dead and you cannot change that. The only things you can take from it are the lessons learnt for you to make a wise decision henceforth.

Consider your past, and whatever you have invested in it as a sunk cost, you cannot regain that, and you cannot recover it.

However, you can make a better life if you shift your focus to the future. Get clear about what you want that future to be, and what you need to do to make it be that; then get to work.

What you focus on, get magnified.

I got dissatisfied with myself some time ago. I was chatting with one of my later-to-be Coaches; Emeka Nobis early that year, and I remember telling him, I needed to move from where I was.

Almost a month after then I didn’t do much to move on until around mid-February, I realized I needed a trigger. I enrolled in Emeka’s Social Media Mastery for Influence and Profit.

The training gave me more than I envisaged and I had a platform to create the right capacity to move towards my goals.

I was clear with what I needed to do. I had to make my voice heard. I have to share my story and the blessedness it holds for others. I have to help women get hold of their lives after the traumatic experience of marital hurt. I have to assist them, be their partner towards healing and turning the trauma to fuel that will trigger the discovery of their essence, seeing them not only surviving but thriving and becoming phenomenal.

I have made many connections since then all towards taking me to my defined goals.

But where did it start from?

It started from where I realized I must cease being a ‘wandering generality’ but a ‘meaningful specific’

How can you start doing this today?

Take your pad and pen right now. Write down where you want to be by the end of this year. The goals you want to achieve. Make your goals SMART

S- Specific

M- Measurable,

A- Attainable,

R- Realistic,

T- Time-bound

Then ask yourself these questions and put your answers down.

  1. What do you want to do each day to achieve your goals?
  2. What are you ready to let go to achieve them?
  3. What are you ready to invest to achieve them? This doesn’t only mean financials although you can’t do away with that, think about other investments, in time, in education, in relationships, etc.
  4. What help are you ready to seek to aid you towards your goals?
  5. What collaborations do you need?

Choose an accountability partner. Someone who you will give trespass, to kick your butt if you slide.
